Thanksgiving is getting closer and closer, and to add to the festivities we will be having our annual Crazy Thanksgiving Dinner this Sunday, November 20th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Parents and students please read the announcements below for more information. Also, please read this email carefully, there is a lot of important information packed in here!
Announcements:
Crazy Thanksgiving Dinner (Students): This week during UMYF we will have our annual Crazy Thanksgiving Dinner. If you don't know what to expect from this, you're in good company. This is Sam's first time experiencing this event too! We will be meeting in the Fellowship Hall from 6:00 – 8:00 for some delicious food, quality company, and time to express our gratitude. Come see what it's all about!
*Parents* This week at UMYF we are having a special event. Because this will be so different from our standard UMYF, we will need A LOT of help. Lynne Klinglesmith is the point person for this event and she has set up an online sign up system to help us get all of our needs provided. Sam:
- I will be attending the National Youth Worker's Convention Thursday-Sunday (17-20). If you need to contact me, I should be available via email or phone.
- Several people have indicated that they aren't sure what my days/hours are. I am in my office Tuesday-Friday from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm. I am also at the church from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm –9:00 pm on Sundays. Monday is my Sabbath day, so I am usually not available unless there is an emergency or dire need. I hope this is helpful to all of you.
- Also! If any students want to stop by to visit, I have Mexican Coke in the fridge, wifi for homework, a couch worth sitting in, and an activity table. Come by to visit anytime during my work hours!
* NEW* Christmas Decorations: The youth group will be decorating the church for Christmas on Saturday Dec. 3 from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm. Join us for Christmas music, cookies, pizza, and of course decorations! Please bring $1-2 to help pay for food/snacks!
Confirmation: Confirmation class will begin in January 8th, 2012 and continue through to confirmation Sunday in May 2012. We will be meeting in the youth basement from 10:45 – 11:45 am each Sunday. Please read our weekly update emails, check our facebook page, or watch the youth blog for information updates.
One-On-Ones: If any student(s) would like to have a one-on-one meeting with me, there are now sign up sheets both on my office door and in the youth basement. We can meet for lunch, grab coffee, get froyo, throw a frisbee, or do something goofy. Please feel free to sign up individually or with a friend. I will be contacting students in the order that they sign up! Parents are also encouraged to sign up!
Writing: Any Seniors who need help writing college essays, please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to edit a rough draft for you, send you more information about what colleges are looking for, or meet you at Starbucks for a writing session. This offer is also open to any IB students who need help writing or editing their extended essays or anyone who might need a letter of recommendation. Honestly, if anyone needs help writing anything, let me know :-)
Sponsors: The youth ministry is in need of an adult leadership team for the coming year. Both the Sunday morning class and the Sunday evening group have grown to the point that we need more support. People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to join us! If you think you would like to work with our students, or simply want more information, please call or email Sam Hastings.
This week in {fumc} youth:
Sunday School: Join us this week from 9:15 – 10:15 for our ongoing discussion of The Book of James. Although these five chapters aren't very long, they are SERIOUSLY deep!
YLT: Sam is out of town until Sunday afternoon. Because of this our next YLT meeting will be this Sunday (Nov 20) AFTER Crazy Thanksgiving Dinner from 8:15-9:00. We will meet again the following Sundays (Nov 27 & Dec 4) to continue polishing our plans for Advent Dinner Theater.
