Weekly Update 11/27

Dear Friends,

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wanted to take a moment to let you all know just how grateful I am for you. I am so blessed by the community we have and I am thirlled to be in ministry with you all! I pray that everyone traveling has had a safe trip and that we all feel a spirit of gratitude during this time. God is doing some amazing things...so let's give our thanks.

I've always found Thanksgiving to be a good day to spend some time thinking about all those people in the world who do not have the luxury of a day like this. Let's reflect a bit on our own lives and pray for those who need us. Most importantly, if we know that there is a need...let's do something about it.

May you all find some rest during this break and be blessed by the time with your friends and families. As you consider the things you are grateful for, may your thoughts be drawn to Jesus...who gave us everything.

Announcements:

* NEW* Christmas Decorations: The youth group will be decorating the church for Christmas on Saturday Dec. 3 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Join us for Christmas music, cookies, pizza, and of course decorations! Please bring $1-2 to help pay for food/snacks! 

Confirmation: Confirmation class will begin in January 8th, 2012 and continue through to confirmation Sunday in May 2012. We will be meeting in the youth basement from 10:45 – 11:45 am each Sunday. Please read our weekly update emails, check our facebook page, or watch the youth blog for information updates.

One-On-Ones: If any student(s) would like to have a one-on-one meeting with me, there are now sign up sheets both on my office door and in the youth basement. We can meet for lunch, grab coffee, get froyo, throw a frisbee, or do something goofy. Please feel free to sign up individually or with a friend. I will be contacting students in the order that they sign up! Parents are also encouraged to sign up!


This Week In {fumc} youth:

Sunday School: We will have Sunday school this week for any students who are not traveling for Thanksgiving. Come join us for a lesson about gratitude.

*NEW* Ticket Sales: I need 1 adult and 1-2 students to sell Advent Dinner Theater tickets after each of the 3 service times the next 3 Sundays. Please sign up by following this link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/advent70

YLT: Youth Leadership Team will meet this Sunday from 10:45 - 11:45 am. We will be continuing our preparation for Advent Dinner Theatre and begin the first stages of a new video project. If you are in town, be there. If not, please let Sam know ASAP.

 UMYF: This Sunday we will be having a Family Game Night in place of UMYF. If you're staying in town for the holiday, come join us! We will be meeting in the Fellowship Hall from 6:00 – 8:00. Also, what would family game night be without a family? Parents and siblings are HIGHLY encouraged to join in the fun! Parents, you will have the opportunity to nail your kids with a dodgeball...kids, if you want to nail your parents or siblings, make sure they come along! One final word...Sardines.

UMYF: Next Sunday we will wrap up our discussion of spiritual practices. Come join us for an important final lesson and some quality time as a community!
