{fumc} youth: Weekly Update 10/16

Dear Friends,

Fall retreat is in 2 days! Crazy! I hope everyone has their forms and money in ;-) We still have room for 5-10 people, so even if you missed the deadline it's not too late! Oh, check out this final video about how neat nature really is and get ready for some mountain air. We're Buckhorn bound in a little over 24 hours!

Announcements:

*UPDATED* Fall Retreat (READ THIS!): This weekend we will have a fall retreat out at Buckhorn United Methodist Camp. During this retreat we will spend time exploring prayer more in depth. What is prayer? How do I pray? Why should I even need or want to pray? These are some of the difficult questions we will begin to answer during this weekend. In addition to this, we will be playing games and enjoying the glory of God’s creation. It's not too late to sign up! We still have room for 5-10 people! If you are interested in attending please get your Medical Release Form and Behavior Covenant in ASAP!  We will still begin meeting at the church at 4:45 to load cars on Friday the 14th, but because of conflicting schedules we will not be leaving until 5:30. A pizza dinner will be provided for students from 4:45-5:15. The plan is for us to return no later than 2:00 pm on Sunday October 16th. The cost for this retreat is $75. If any student needs financial support, scholarships are available. Please contact Sam with any questions.

Post-Parent Meeting: Any parents who were unable to make it to our fall parent meeting can download the parent meeting guide from the youth blog. It is the first item listed when you go to Parents > News. Otherwise, feel free to stop by and grab a copy!

Sunday School Time: The youth group is now meeting on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:15. However, from 9:00 - 9:15 am, the youth area will be open for students to hang out. We will also have breakfast snacks set up by a parent host. From 10:15-10:45 the youth area will again be open for students to hang out and enjoy a snack. Any parent interested in hosting, please contact Sam!

Confirmation: Confirmation class will begin in January 8th, 2012 and continue through to confirmation Sunday in May 2012. Please read our weekly update emails, check our facebook page, or watch the youth blog for information updates.

One-On-Ones: If any students would like to have a one-on-one meeting with me, there are now sign up sheets both on my office door and in the youth basement. We can meet for lunch, grab coffee, get froyo, throw a frisbee, or do something goofy. Please feel free to sign up individually or with a friend. I will be contacting students in the order that they sign up! Parents are also encouraged to sign up!

Writing: Any Seniors who need help writing college essays, please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to edit a rough draft for you, send you more information about what colleges are looking for, or meet you at Starbucks for a writing session. This offer is also open to any IB students who need help writing or editing their extended essays or anyone who might need a letter of recommendation. Honestly, if anyone needs help writing anything, let me know :-)

Sponsors: The youth ministry is in need of an adult leadership team for the coming year. Both the Sunday morning class and the Sunday evening group have grown to the point that we need more support. People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to join us! If you think you would like to work with our students, or simply want more information, please call or email Sam Hastings.

Trick Or Treat So Others Can Eat: On October 30th we will not have our regularly scheduled youth program. Instead we will meet at the church for a special event in our neighborhood. Parents interested in helping this night should contact Sam for more information.

Fort Fun Night: Friday November 11th the middle school group will have a special event out at Fort Fun. Join us from 6:00-9:00 pm for laser tag, bumper cars, mini golf, and more! We will meet at Fort Fun at 5:45. The cost for each student is $25.00.
