Dear Friends,
As of today our September Newsletter is in the mail! This information is also available on the blog, so check it out! Especially important in this newsletter are the announcements about Sunday school time and about trip/event forms. To all our runners, good luck in the cross country meet today!
This week in {fumc} youth:
Sunday School: This week we will conclude our discussion of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s book, “Life Together.” Join us to discuss what Bonhoeffer calls, “Confession & Communion.” It will be a great way to wrap up our month long series!
UMYF: We are now meeting at our regular scheduled time on Sunday nights (6:00-8:00 pm). UMYF is open to all students between 7th and 12th grade. Join us this week as we continue our discussion on “Three Simple Rules” with a talk on the second rule “Do Good.”
Additional Announcements:
Sunday School Time: the youth group is currently meeting from 9:00-10:30 am. Beginning October 2nd we will be adjusting our schedule again. From 9:00 - 9:15 am, the youth area will be open for students to hang out. In addition to this we will have breakfast snacks set up by a parent host. Sunday school will then begin at 9:15 and end at 10:15. From 10:15-10:45 the youth area will again be open for students to hang out and enjoy a snack.)
Parent Meeting: On October 2nd we will have a parent meeting in the Parlor parallel to our regularly scheduled UMYF time (6:00- 8:00 p.m.). During this meeting we will go over some of the larger events we have planned for the fall, as well as discuss some of the plans we have for the coming year. UMYF will take place across the hall in the Fellowship Hall during this meeting. Youth Council will be providing snacks and refreshments. For more information please contact Sam Hastings (samhastings@fcfumc.net)
Confirmation: Confirmation class will begin in January 2012 and continue through to confirmation Sunday in May 2012. Please read our weekly update emails, check our facebook page, or watch the youth blog for information updates.
Fall Retreat: The youth will have a weekend retreat out at Buckhorn United Methodist Camp. During this weekend we will spend time exploring prayer more in depth. What is prayer? How do I pray? Why should I even need or want to pray? These are some of the difficult questions we will begin to answer during this weekend. In addition to this, we will be playing games, enjoying the glory of Colorado and God’s creation. Parents who would like to volunteer to either provide transportation, supervision, or meals please contact Youth Council for more information. Contact information for Youth Council as well as our Medical Release Form and Behavior covenant can be found on the youth blog.
One-On-Ones: If any students would like to have a one-on-one meeting with me, there are now sign up sheets both on my office door and in the youth basement. We can meet for lunch, grab coffee, get froyo, throw a frisbee, or do something goofy. Please feel free to sign up individually or with a friend. I will be contacting students in the order that they sign up! Parents are also encouraged to sign up!
Writing: Any Seniors who need help writing college essays, please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to edit a rough draft for you, send you more information about what colleges are looking for, or meet you at Starbucks for a writing session. This offer is also open to any IB students who need help writing or editing their extended essays or anyone who might need a letter of recommendation. Honestly, if anyone needs help writing anything, let me know :-)
Sponsors: The youth ministry is in need of an adult leadership team for the coming year. Both the Sunday morning class and the Sunday evening group have grown to the point that we need more support. People of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to join us! If you think you would like to work with our students, or simply want more information, please call or email Sam Hastings.
Next Week in {fumc} youth:
Sunday School: Join us next week at our readjusted time (9:15-10:15) as we introduce and begin discussing The Book of James. This letter challenges and encourages us to be active in our faith and to seek goodness. It’s a short read, but it’s seriously deep. This week we will talk about trails, temptation, listening, and doing. Come check it out!
UMYF: Join us this week as we conclude our discussion on “Three Simple Rules”
