Lawrence Mission Trip, Day 4: And Then There Were Three...

You never really know what you're getting yourself into when you go on a mission trip. Often, these experiences are life changing and leave us humbled. However, there are also times when we are challenged. This has certainly been the case for two different sets of three in our team.

First of all, after three amazing days here in Lawrence we had to say goodbye to three of our own. David Dalke, Jill Phipps, and Wes Seng left first thing this morning at 6:00 to drive back to Colorado. David will be spending some well earned time visiting with family in town, Jill is interviewing for a position as a district magistrate (I think that's what it's called at least), and Will is competing in a Basketball tournament in Las Vegas. All three of them will be dearly missed, but they leave with our blessing, our encouragement and our love.

So what is this second group of three? Well, with David and Jill on the road to Colorado there are only three leaders left on the trip. Christine Morrison, Kyle Brown, and I have been having an absolute adventure with our students. I think they're having a blast with us as well :-) Even so, PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL OF US! I have a feeling we will need it.

After we said our farewells, we began our day with a hustle to gather our tools and get to our work sites. Even with a little bit of a late start, our students managed to dominate the heavy workload. Today we saw the completion of the wheelchair ramp and indoor painting projects. We also began several new projects and managed to make considerable headway. If our students work as hard tomorrow as they did today, we should finish our work week strong.

After all the work was done, we went to the home of a FUMC member and had a well deserved pool party and cookout. Despite our best efforts to lay low, Kyle Brown and I were thrown in the pool fully clothed. Fortunately, we saw it coming and had emptied our pockets about 30 minutes beforehand :-)

Overall, everyone is in high spirits and ready for their last day of work. Tomorrow is also the annual Sidewalk Sale in downtown Lawrence, so we will be checking that out before taking everyone out to a restaurant for dinner.

Thank you to everyone back home in Fort Collins (and apparently to those in Germany, India, and Alaska who are following us) for all the support you have given us. We deeply appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

All is well! That's it for now. Christine will be your guest blogger again tomorrow!

Peace.
